Liverpool has a strong reputation around the world as a city full of culture, history, music and so much more. From 2008 when Liverpool celebrated its title as the European Capital of Culture, the city has gone from strength to strength and residents and tourists are now simply spoilt for choice when it comes to spending their free time. Following on from wildly popular events that have already taken place in Liverpool this year such as The Three Festivals Tall Ships Regatta, LightNight Liverpool: Transformation, Liverpool Biennial: Beautiful World Where Are You Now, Liverpool Boudreaux Wine Festival and so much more, this year promises to be packed full of more amazing experiences than ever before. The city continuously hosts an array of eclectic events with something for everybody. Even as I write this blog Liverpool has just celebrated Liverpool Pride and hosted the finale for the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race all in the same weekend. Talk about New York, it seems that it is actually Liverpool that is the city that never sleeps.

Liverpool is full of surprises. You never know when an ex-Beatle might perhaps do a secret show in the world famous Cavern Club just like Sir Paul McCartney did last week or when you might see a Giant walking past you in the street… In October, Royal de Luxe, the world’s leading street theatre company, return to the city for an unmissable show with the theme ‘Liverpool’s Dream’. The plans for October’s show are still top secret but after the epic success of the performances in 2014 it is set to be one of the highlights of 2018.

For sporting fans the city can offer ambitious shows such as the Red Bull Drift Shifters taking place on 19th August which will see one of the biggest, loudest and most intense motorsports displayed in the heart of the city centre, with tens of thousands of spectators expected to line the streets to witness the world’s best drifter drivers put their skills, speed and precision to the test. Or if the adrenaline junkie lifestyle is not for you then there is also The Liverpool International Horse Show taking place in December as well as a Rugby League test match taking place between England and New Zealand in Anfield Stadium and of course a good dose of Premier League Football.

Liverpool is full of original events that you will struggle to find anywhere else in the country such as Pirates on the Dock in September or the biggest food and drink festival in the North West; Liverpool Food and Drink Festival which returns on 15th-16th September to showcase the city’s fine flavours.

The city is also full to the brim with arts and culture including an array of world-class exhibitions.  The blockbuster show ‘China’s First Emperor and the Terracotta Warriors’ is running until the end of October showcasing objects from one of the world’s greatest archaeological discoveries and producing record numbers of visitors for Liverpool’s World Museum, with locals and tourists from around the world flocking to see this awe inspiring piece of history. As well as this, Tate Liverpool is celebrating its 30th anniversary in style with exceptional shows such as ‘Life in Motion: Egon Schiele/Francesca Woodman’. You will also find other epic exhibitions such as ‘Double Fantasy’ at the Museum of Liverpool which explores the complex lives of John Lennon and Yoko Ono as well as Liverpool Comedy Festival 14th-30th September, which promises to be packed full of the UK’s finest comedians, or Liverpool Literary Festival taking place from 19th-21st October.

Whether you’re a cultural vulture, a foodie, a music enthusiast, a sporting fan or a mix of everything there really is something for everyone. Liverpool is a vibrant city filled with passion and excitement and you will never be short of something to do. Whether you are a resident of Liverpool or simply visiting it will always leave you wanting to come back for more and with the calibre of events happening throughout the city it’s very easy to see why.
