We’re excited to announce that we’ve reached a new milestone in the business by expanding our team! To introduce our new team member and commercial property specialist, Clare Norman, we asked her a few questions:
How would you describe your role?
Clare: The role of a recruitment consultant is really rewarding! It is diverse and can be somewhat of a rollercoaster (which I love!) with no two days the same. Of course the basics of a recruiter’s job is to match the right people to the right position, however, a good recruiter does far more than this. Over the sixteen years I have been in this position I have been involved in recruitment seminars and fairs, provided career advice, coached and mentored, interviewed a wide array of candidates, networked across multiple sectors, organised events and been involved in marketing, to name just a few. As a people person and someone who loves to talk I particularly enjoy the daily interaction my job provides with my property clients and property candidates, many of whom I now class as friends.
How would you describe your career over the years?
Clare: I’ve really enjoyed my career so far and I’ve worked for both corporate and family owned firms, meeting some wonderful people along the way! There have been some learning curves, from managing my first team to being able to successfully survive the recession as a recruiter, but looking back I would ultimately describe my career as gratifying.
What is one of your greatest achievements in your career?
Clare: Over sixteen years I have a few highlights; however, one of the biggest for me is becoming a manager in 2006 and seeing my team successfully grow. More recently I was also able to secure a surveyor for a client that described the position as “trying to find a needle in a haystack”. It was far from easy but I was able to find that needle!
What career advice would you give to your younger self?
Clare: To enjoy the successes a little more at the time and to not worry about saying yes to things that may initially seem scary, as it all works out just fine.
Why did you choose a career in recruitment?
Clare: As with the majority of recruiters I “fell into” recruitment by initially joining my first firm as an administrator. Prior to that I had no idea recruitment companies even existed. Quickly after joining however, the recruitment bug got hold of me and I have not looked back since!
What do you most enjoy about your roIe?
Clare: I feel that the variety that being a recruiter can offer is somewhat unique, and there is never an opportunity to sit back. I love being busy and I love meeting people so my job fits this perfectly. I take pride in the long term relationships I build with candidates and clients alike and I particularly enjoy identifying opportunities for property individuals and helping property clients build successful teams. Complete job satisfaction!
What does 2019 have in store for you and Clifton Gray?
Clare: Having recently joined the team here at Clifton Gray as an Associate Director I am looking forward to helping grow an already successful brand within the property recruitment arena. I will be continuing to predominately recruit within the General Practice sector, recruiting surveyors from Graduate to Senior Partner/Director level across the following specialisms
* Agency Surveyor (Office / Industrial / Retail / Residential);
* Property / Asset Management;
* Valuation Surveyors;
* Rating Surveyors;
* L & T Surveyors;
* Investment Agency; and
* Development Surveyors
Clare is a valuable addition to our team and we are very excited to see what she brings to the company. Director, Lisa Clifton, added “2019 sees our business progress into the growth phase. With the addition of Clare we’ll be tackling new markets with the expectation of continuing to cement our reputation within the property sector. Clare will be instrumental in the strategic growth of her own team and she brings a wealth of experience and professionalism to the role. It’s an exciting time for us all.”
