Top hotel chain
business Marriott will be introducing their Residence Inn brand to Manchester
in the heart of the city centre in late 2020. The company which was founded in
1927 and now offers one of the ‘most powerful portfolios in the business’ with
over 7,000 properties across 131 countries will be taking over an existing
property which is currently operating as The Northern Quarters Serviced
Apartments Manchester. Marriott will be rebranding the building to convert it
into the perfect space to offer their services for the extended stays that the
Residence Inn brand offers consumers. The building will be managed by hotel
management company Cycas Hospitality.
Marriott describe Residence Inn as ‘more than just a room – it’s a space for
you to spread out, open up and be yourself’ and that the rooms are ‘designed to
give you openness, freedom and room to travel the way you love to live.’
Marriott currently offers its Residence Inn service in four other UK locations
including Aberdeen, Edinburgh, the London Bridge area and Kensington London meaning
that Manchester will be the first North-Western city to offer the service. A
phased refurbishment is currently underway and the building will have 155 rooms
made up of a mixture of one and two-bedroom apartments equipped with features
such as a lounge, breakfast space and kitchen facilities as well as ground
floor retail outlets. The building also has the added advantage of being
situated in a prime location, just walking distance from Manchester Piccadilly
station. Marriott’s investment in Manchester paints a positive picture for the
city’s property market and property jobs in the city as well as it portrays the
confidence that this huge, multinational company has in the city, especially as
it is only the fifth UK location for the Residence Inn initiative.
Chief Development Officer at Cycas Hospitality, Asli Kutlucan, states that
‘whilst Manchester is already considered a gateway to the North, it’s clear
from the continued investment into the city’s rail and international air
connections that the potential for regional growth over the coming years is
huge.’ He also went on to say how Cycas Hospitality is confident that ‘the
central location of our new Residence Inn property will tap into the growing
demand for alternative accommodation options from business and leisure
travellers’ and that the company is ‘looking forward to working closely with
Ciel Capitol and Marriott International to further build our presence in this
vibrant market.’
CEO of Ciel Capital, Vedrana Riley, also highlighted the city’s potential due
to its reputation as a major tech hub stating that ‘the government’s ‘Northern
Powerhouse’ initiative has helped transform the region still further,
increasing the investments to the city and creating one of the world’s largest,
and most exciting, urban economies’ and that ‘as the city continues to attract
a high-profile mix of start-up businesses and large scale multinationals, from
Boohoo to Amazon, our first hotel in Manchester will be well positioned to
cater to the city’s evolving hotel needs.’
Marriott’s new Residence Inn project is ongoing and will be opening to the public in late 2020. It is a significant event for the city as it represents an investment from big business and will also aid with the needs of the local economy in general by providing high quality, tailored living spaces for those seeking both business and pleasure in the heart of Manchester.
